President Salva Kiir on Thursday applauded citizens and armed forces for peaceful Christmas and New Year’s celebrations across the country as he officially resumed office, his office said.

Kiir made the remarks upon his official resumption of duty in Juba, where he was received and welcomed by the top security generals and government officials.

The president expressed his “profound appreciation” to the citizens, the military, and all the regular forces for maintaining peace and order during the festive season, a statement from his office said.

President Kiir also called on government employees to remain dedicated and focused on delivering essential services to the people.

He further reaffirmed his commitment to furthering efforts to restore peace and stability across the country throughout 2025.
