President Salva Kiir has returned to Juba after a regional diplomatic tour that took him to Djibouti for the swearing-in ceremony of President Ismail Omar Guelleh and to Kampala for the inauguration of President Yoweri Museveni.
Last week, President Kiir travelled to Djibouti, where he attended the inauguration of President Ismail Omar Guelleh, who was sworn in following his re-election in April.
According to the Office of the President, the visit to Djibouti provided an opportunity for bilateral talks focused on strengthening relations between South Sudan and Djibouti, with emphasis on trade, infrastructure, and regional cooperation.
Meanwhile in Kampala, the president joined regional leaders at the swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who was sworn in for a seventh term.
The Office of the President said discussions during the visit highlighted peace and stability in the Great Lakes region, as well as continued cooperation on security and economic integration.
President Kiir was received at Juba International Airport by senior government officials, SPLM leaders, and supporters.
