The spokesperson of the National Police Service says forces have been deployed in the main markets in the capital Juba ahead of the Eid al-fitr al-Mubarak.

The Ministry of Labor, Public Service and Human Resource Development has declared tomorrow as a public holiday for the eid.

But today is a normal working day.

There will also be no public holiday for the Independence Day since it falls on a weekend.

According to a circular signed by an Undersecretary in the Ministry, Mary Hillary Wani, the holiday starts tomorrow for Muslims, who will continue until Friday and return to work on Monday.

Christian will only take off tomorrow and return to work on Thursday.

The letter was written to all the Civil Service Institutions and Commissions, Diplomatic Missions and UN Agencies.
Others recipients of the letter are international and national non – governmental organizations and the public at large.

The letter also states that since the Independence Day falls on Saturday, which is a weekly holiday, there shall be no compensation for the day next week.

Brigadier Daniel Justin said the police will step up their monitoring of the security situation all over the state capitals, from today until tomorrow.

He told Eye Radio that they did this arrangement due to high rate of robbery crimes, especially during festive seasons.

“We will be with them during prayers and we will be there in the markets because all the markets will be overcrowded and busy,” he said.

“This is also a chance for me to warn them that any person who is going to the market should be very careful because there will be crime activities on the eve of Eid today and this is according to our information and the reports we are getting,” he added.

“So everybody should be careful especially at Bas Park because it will be very crowded and thieves will be there also.”

Brig. Justin has urged Muslims to celebrate it peacefully and wishes them a happy celebration.
