The Ministry of Health says there is no confirmed case of the Ebola virus in the country, but adds that it is investigating three suspected cases detected three days ago.

According to Dr John Rumunu, the Director-General for Preventive Health Service in the Ministry of Health, the three cases currently in isolation were detected in Nimule, Yei and Yambio.

“Our respond team identified a suspect in Nimule, I underlined the word suspect and when we have a suspect, we put the suspect in an isolation center specifically designed for Ebola patients and took samples for testing so this is what happened in Nimule,”said Rumunu.

Dr. Rumunu said their samples have been taken to regional labs for testing since the country does not the capacity to test Ebola virus at the moment.

The health expert said the suspected cases had recently returned from Uganda where the deadly disease has broken out since September 20th.

“The patients is stable and there is no reason to panic. The results are yet to be delivered to us because at the moment, we do not test in the country, so we sent the samples to collaborating labs in the region. We also have one suspect in Yei and another one in Yambio and this is ordinary surveillance.”

The Ugandan outbreak is said to have been caused by the rare and less infectious Sudan strain which does not have a vaccine at the moment.

According to media reports in Uganda, the hemorrhagic fever has so far infected 35 people and killed seven others as of late last month.

Dr Rumunu specified that Ebola mainly spreads through contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person, and that it has symptoms including unexplained bleeding, muscle pain, headaches, fever, vomiting and diarrhoea among others.
