Media laws to be analyzed before it’s gazzetted

The recently approved media law is going to be analyzed by lawyers before it is gazzeted and distributed to the public, the General Secretary of Union of Journalists has said.

The exercise is aimed at simplifying the media language of the law so that it is understood by everyone.

Edward Ladu Terso says says awareness should be created amongst the public, and journalists should be trained on the media laws.

“The chairperson of the information committee in the assembly told us very frankly that there is budget already and they are going work in collaboration with the ministry of Justice to ensure the money is released and then they do the gazzeting and from there, the laws would be distributed,” said Mr Terso.

The media bills were signed into law by the President early this month.

The bills included the media authority, the right of access to information and the broadcasting corporation.
