Author : | Published: Wednesday, September 17, 2014

IDP camp in Awerial - January 2014.

Internally Displaced Persons and the host community in Mingkaman in Lakes State yesterday turned out in large numbers to protest after the medical charity organization, MSF, announced it was ending its activities in the town.

Youths, community chiefs, men, women and children marched to the premises of the County commissioner, the humanitarian hub and the M-S-F compound.

Paramount chief Sultan Gideon Alier said MSF has played a vital role in the IDP camps.

He said MSF should continue supporting the vulnerable, especially children, pregnant women and those with injuries.

The representative of UNOCHA, Joyce Asha Francis, urged the protesters to remain peaceful.

She told them that her office would forward to UNOCHA’s higher office the sealed letter they had given her.

An MSF senior official who declined to be named told the protesters that there are other health partners which are doing similar activities to MSF in Mingkaman.

He said those health actors are continuing to deliver services to the people of Mingkaman.
