President Salva Kiir has told his Chinese counterpart that SPLM is following in the steps of the Communist Party of China by alleviating poverty in South Sudan.

The ruling party abbreviated as CPC is preparing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its 1921 founding tomorrow.

The party has steered China through a century of wars, famine and social upheaval.

However, in the last two decades, millions of impoverished, starving Chinese who lived in the countryside have been lifted from extreme poverty – a social mobilization that has helped create the second-largest economy in the world.

“We shall strive to learn lesson of past achievements of countries like China to realize our goal of uplifting our people out of extreme poverty,” Kiir told the CPC and World Political Parties Summit via video link in Juba on Tuesday.

But the month of May was recently characterized by high levels of food insecurity, violence, and cattle raids in South Sudan, a new report by the UN suggested in June.

It said 8.3 million people are still in need of food, while 7.2 million others will remain acutely food insecure from April to July 2021.

The UN OCHA concluded that the humanitarian crisis triggered by the legacy of civil war and chronic underdevelopment continues on a costly trajectory for South Sudan’s people and their outlook on the future.

“SPLM under my leadership will continue to learn from the CPC admirable experiences as well as the current initiatives as it endeavors to achieve national policy objective,” Kiir continued.

However, with billions of dollars from oil sales, the Kiir administration has been unable to implement its development policies over the years.

Besides, it struggles to pay civil servants, some of whom go for months without pay.

Over 10,000 representatives of political parties and various circles attended the event.

President Salva Kiir is among the selected 21 global leaders who participated in the summit.

The summit issued a joint initiative, which expressed the common will of political parties attending the event to safeguard world peace and development and promote the wellbeing of the people.

The world political Parties summit was held under the theme, “for the people’s wellbeing, the responsibility of political parties.”
