Lakes State government has arrested one raider during a crackdown on the perpetrators of Saturday’s cattle raiding in Tonj South County.

On the weekend, Warrap State Information Minister said suspected youth from Cuiebet County of Lakes state attacked a cattle camp in Tonj South County and went away with 235 heads of cattle.

William Wol Mayom said the raiders were pursued by security forces led by Tonj South Commissioner, but they were beyond reach.

The official also stated that three people; one identified as the owner of the cows and two security personnel went missing following the attack.

Both Warrap and Lakes authorities say they have identified the perpetrators.

When contacted on Monday morning, Lakes Information Minister said one of the suspects has been arrested, while the rest are on the run.

Meanwhile, Minister William Kwoji said 15 heads of the raided cattle have been recovered so far.

“The government of Lake States have identified them although most of them are still on the run,” Kwoji said.

“But their cattle have been controlled by the government to make sure those criminals must avail themselves with the cattle raided from Tonj.”

“I talked to the commissioner this morning fifteen head of cattle have been recovered and many are still at run, one criminal has been arrested but those involved in raiding all of their cattle of six hundred have been put in government custody untill they report themselves with the cows they have raided from Tonj South.”

“So, the government of Lake States and especially the local authority of Cuiebet is working hard to make sure those cows are recovered and returned to their rightful owners otherwise they have their own cows to pay back.”
