Koryom FC Bor clinched its first win in the South Sudan Premier League on Suturday, defeating Salaam FC Aweil 2-1 at the Juba National Stadium.

Koryom FC faced an uphill battle from the start after arriving late and missing warm-up exercises, leading to muscle injuries for several players.

Despite these challenges, they managed to hold their ground against a dominant Salaam FC Aweil in the first half. Koryom’s goalkeeper emerged as the standout player, denying numerous threatening attacks.

Salaam FC relied heavily on their active left side, led by captain Malueth Bol Nyang, midfielder Momoud Sendy Fatas, and defender Akot Adhal Adhal, but failed to convert their chances. The first half ended in a goalless draw.

Koryom FC utilized the halftime break to regroup. They scored their first goal in the 50th minute when striker Mawut Garang Ateny capitalized on a deep pass from left-winger Agufi Mudasiri Ali.

Later, Koryom’s defence strategy allowed Salaam FC to press for an equalizer.

However, this created spaces for counterattacks. In the 90th minute, Agufi Mudasiri Ali secured a penalty after being fouled during a breakaway and converted it to double Koryom’s lead.

Salaam FC managed a late consolation goal in the 96th minute through Adim Madut but couldn’t turn the tide.

James Garang, Salaam FC’s coach, acknowledged that fatigue and haste contributed to their loss. He promised to address these issues in future games.

Kang Arkangelo, Salaam FC’s captain, urged fans to stay optimistic, emphasizing the early stage of the league.

Moses Machar, Koryom FC’s head coach, commended his team’s resilience despite the challenges of travel and injuries.

He vowed to focus on player recovery ahead of their next match.
