President Salva Kiir has agreed that the leader of the SPLM in Opposition Dr. Riek Machar will take oath of office as the First Vice President on arrival on Monday.

The move followed a request by the chairperson of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, Festus Mogae.

Mogae met with President Kiir in his office yesterday to discuss issues related to the implementation of the peace agreement.

The Minister of Information, Michael Makuei Lueth, has confirmed the agreement.

“The president considered the request that he will take his oath the same day of his arrival. Other programs remain the same,” Mr Makuei told Eye Radio.

However, the public rally the SPLM in Opposition had wanted to be addressed by Dr Riek and all parties to the peace agreement will not be held.
