“Yes we have tribes, but those tribes should keep us together. Love your neighbours, and love your brothers and sisters.” Kiir said.
President Salva Kiir is urging the people of South Sudan to accept their diversity and live in peace as communities.
The president had earlier sent twenty ministers from the national government to the ten states to convey his Christmas message to the people of South Sudan.
He was addressing worshipers during a prayer mass at Saint Tereza Catholic Cathedral Kartor in Juba on Christmas Day when he said tribes should not divide the people.
“I want you to live in peace amongst yourselves and live in peace with your neighbours. Let us embrace this peace which has come [with the birth of Jesus Christ], and pray that the New Year will be a peaceful year.” He said.
President Kiir urged the people of South Sudan to continue to pray so that the New Year 2015 will be the year of peace in the country.
