The Commissioner of Juba County Samuel Emiliano says the county authorities are investigating the issue of plot allocations within the sewage site in Luri Payam.

According to Commissioner Emiliano, the site had been fenced, but officials later discovered that parts of the land had been illegally turned into residential plots.

He said the area is not suitable for settlement and that investigations are underway to establish how the allocations were made.

“We came and found that the fence of the sewage side was removed and parts of the side has been allocated plots, we are investigating to know how these plots were allocated, from environmental point of view this place is not even fit to be residence,” he said.

During a visit to the sewage site in Luri Payam last Friday, authorities also identified several operational challenges, including lack of sewage treatment chemicals, poor maintenance of chambers, overgrown grass, shortage of protective equipment for workers, and security concerns following the removal of the fence.

Commissioner Emiliano further revealed that the county is working on plans to establish an alternative sewage site to improve waste management services in Juba.
