Juba armed robbery leaves one dead

A family member says six gunmen entered their house and killed their brother last night in Malakia suburb in Juba.

Waleed Awad says the suspected criminals came at 1 pm and took money, clothes, phones and laptops before shooting the unnamed 35-year-old brother.

Mr Waleed says the men were in military uniform.

“After locking my sisters inside their room, they proceeded to the deceased’s house and ordered him to open the door or they would kill him,” Mr Awad narrated the incident to Eye Radio.

“There, he decided to open the door. They then asked him to hand over money, cell phones, and any other valuables. So he gave them some money and his mobile phone.

“Upon searching the room for more properly, they decided to leave, but one of the criminals asked his colleagues: ‘Why are you leaving him?  Are you afraid of him?’

“Then while the late was lying down, one of them, who was carrying a gun, shot him in the back and then they fled.”

When Eye Radio contacted the police, they were not immediately available to comment.

The incident is among recent cases of armed violence in Juba. Over the weekend, a man opened fire on a video hall in Gurei, killing more than 10 soccer fans.

On Sunday night, more than 10 revelers were injured in what the victims described as a grenade attack on a party in Mangateen suburb.

In a separate development, police in Torit, Imatong State, say one person has been killed and six others wounded in an attack on vehicles in which a football team was travelling along the Torit-Juba Road.

Inspector Jeremiah Fadiri says the injured include the driver and five players.

Fadiri says the police managed to rescue most of the players after exchanging fire with the unknown gunmen for at least 15 minutes.

He told Eye Radio that the attack occurred at Lolere village last evening near Torit town.
