Jonglei faces the worst challenges – Oxfam

Author : | Published: Friday, March 25, 2016

The British Agency, OXFAM, says Jonglei is facing some of the worst water, sanitation and hygiene, and food security challenges in the country.

It says the situation has been caused by the vast number of IDPs in the area, due to the continuing conflict in the Greater Upper Nile region. Jonglei hosts about 621, 200 IDPs.

In a regular situation report, Oxfam says one of the areas, most hit by the situation is Nyirol.

The agency says conflict over limited water and sanitation resources has also contributed with the situation.

It says many markets have been destroyed and water lines broken due to the national crisis.

In the case of hunger, Oxfam says the people cannot farm due to insecurity, yet they cannot afford to buy foodstuff from the markets due the rapid increase in prices in the markets.
