Jamus FC Juba hammered Bentiu City SC 5-1 on Christmas Day and cruised to the top of South Sudan Premier League table on Wednesday at Juba National Stadium.

The game drew a crowd of approximately 5,000 spectators, eager to see the local cup champions begin their campaign.

Despite Bentiu FC’s early attempts to utilize the flanks and quick ball movement, Jamus FC absorbed the pressure and maintained their composure.

The breakthrough came in the 38th minute when Emmanuel Maku capitalized on an opportunity in the penalty area to put Jamus ahead. Bentiu’s hopes of turning the tides were dashed as Patric Oleo doubled the lead just four minutes later with a powerful strike, leaving the halftime score at 2-0.

The second half saw Jamus maintain their dominance, with substitute Yohanna Paulino (Cisse) making an immediate impact by scoring twice in the 60th and 70th minutes.

His bid for a hat-trick was denied by an offside call. Bentiu managed to pull one back in the 65th minute, courtesy of Gattang Machieng’s penalty after their striker was fouled by the Jamus goalkeeper.

Jamus FC sealed their emphatic victory in the 88th minute with a fifth goal from prolific national team striker Ezbon Malish, concluding a stellar performance by the home side.

Bentiu FC coach Jerry attributed the defeat to inadequate preparation and challenges posed by the artificial turf. “We weren’t fully ready, and the pitch added to our struggles,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jamus FC Rwandan coach André Cassa bungo praised his team’s performance but acknowledged Bentiu’s effort. “The opponent wasn’t easy; we succeeded by paying attention to small details they overlooked,” he stated.

Prolific striker Ezbon Malish who is also a key player for the national team, opened the score before Yohana Paulino netted twice followed by goals from Patric Oleo and Emmanuel Maku.
At least 14 football clubs are competing in the league scheduled to run until May 31, 2025.
Jamus is leading the table with three points and 4 goals while Malakia are tied to three points and two goals with Kator FC Juba.
