Eye Radio Station Manager and Chief Editor Koang Pal Chang has been appointed as a board member of the national media regulator, the South Sudan Media Authority.
Koang was appointed alongside Kongdier Dut Jok, who was named Chairperson, and Cecilia Joseph Maker, who was appointed Deputy Chairperson.
The appointment was made through a Republican Order dated June 24. The order also dissolved the previous board by annulling the 2021 decree that established it, and appointed a new nine-member board with immediate effect.
In the same order, Ajou Luol Akuei was appointed Managing Director of the Media Authority. He will also serve as Secretary and Ex-Officio Member.
Other board members include Nyankuac Ngor Chol, Emmanuel Monychol Akop, Editor-in-Chief of The Dawn Newspaper Michael James Otor, David John Kamuri, and a spokesperson of the National Security Service’s Internal Security Bureau.
Reacting to the appointment, Eye Radio Chief Executive Officer Stephen Omiri congratulated Koang Pal, describing his selection as well deserved.
Omiri said the appointment reflects Koang’s dedication, integrity, and contribution to journalism and the media industry in South Sudan. He reaffirmed Eye Radio’s commitment to supporting a vibrant, professional and independent media sector.
Koang Pal Chang is a seasoned journalist and media manager with more than 20 years of experience in media management, institutional development and public communication in South Sudan.
His work has focused on organizational leadership, programme oversight and coordination with national and international partners.
As Station Manager of Eye Radio, he oversees operational policy, financial management and regulatory compliance.
He also coordinates with government institutions and manages partnerships supporting national broadcasting and public information.
Koang has managed donor-supported programmes funded by organisations including USAID, UNICEF and UNESCO.
His work has included budget oversight, procurement processes and reporting in line with donor requirements.
Koang has also worked in public health communication and community engagement.
Between 2016 and 2020, he served as Acting Chief Executive Officer of Eye Media.
In this role, he oversaw organisational planning, financial management and project delivery across departments.
Koang has contributed to training and institutional development through Media Development Institute and BBC Media Action.
His work has focused on capacity building in media and communication, as well as strengthening reporting systems.
Koang has been involved in establishing professional structures within the media sector, including founding the Media Development Institute and the National Editors’ Forum.
He has also contributed to frameworks on media practice and coordination among editors.
At the regional level, he participated in East African Community sub-working groups on risk and crisis communication.
His work focused on coordination and information management during public health events.
Through his roles in media, training and institutional coordination, Koang Pal Chang has contributed to media sector development and organisational leadership in South Sudan.
