The government says it rejects any call for establishment of an interim government without President Salva Kiir.

Vice President James Wani Igga said President Kiir was elected in 2010 to serve a five year term.

Analysts and bloggers have begun discussing the possibility of both sides forming an interim government as a way of reconciling the nation.

Yesterday, youth from different political parties organized a peaceful procession in Juba to show their support to the government.

James Wani Igga told the gathering at Dr. John Garang Mausoleum that it would set what he calls a bad precedent for an elected leader to be deposed through violence.

“There are some people in some Western quarters coming up with suggestions that this government of General Kiir Mayardit be dissolved and a new government be established without Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek. But President Kiir was elected, should we ask him to step down because Dr. Riek has taken arms against him?” said Mr VP.

“We might become chaotic like Somalia or even worse; anyone or a commander could just get up and ask for an elected president to step down.”

Last week, the government and the SPLM/SPLA –in Opposition said it was not a priority to discuss the formation of an interim government in South Sudan until the two sides have addressed the root causes of the conflict.

Both sides said the priority is to stop the fighting.

IGAD Mediators to the South Sudan Peace Dialogue said both sides have not discussed the formation of an interim government in South Sudan.

Talks between the government and the SPLM/SPLA –in Opposition will resume on the 20th of March in Addis Ababa.
