The spokesperson of the Abyei Administrative area is calling for the implementation of the outcome of the Angelo Beda Committee’s findings on the Ngok-Twic conflict for lasting peace.

Minister Bolis Kouc’s call came three days after the killing of Deputy Administrator Bridger General Noon Deng.

Gen. Deng was killed in a road ambush on his way to attend New Year Prayers in Jouljok Parish.

Minister Kouc says the implementation of the recommendation will result in lasting peace in the area.

“I’m sending my message to the national government that, the committee headed by honourable Angelo Beda has come out with an advisory opinion and proposed great solutions,” said Bolis.

“I’m appealing that if these solutions are implemented in reality, I’m very sure this problem will come to an end by these resolutions that have been proposed by Angelo Beda Committee,” he said.

In April last year, an investigation into the border-related conflict between Dinka Ngok of Abyei and Twic of Warrap State.

Angelo Beda’s committee has adopted several recommendations for the resolutions of the Ngok-Twic conflict.

The resolutions were expected to be implemented for durable peace to return to the border communities.

The legislative committee recommended the deployment of security forces in the areas adjacent to Agok/Anet as a buffer zone.

It says the security forces should be led by a neutral commander who doesn’t hail from the Greater Bahr el Ghazal region.

The report calls for the establishment of the South Sudan Boundary Commission by President Salva Kiir.

The commission was to identify, delineate, and demarcate the boundary by the 1955 and 1st January 1956 Sudan Survey maps between the Ngok and the Twic.

The committee also recommended a reconciliation conference between the Twic Dinka and Ngok Dinka communities to be conducted in a neutral environment among many others.

In December last year, the UN Security Council and the Troika Countries- Norway, the UK, and the US called on the unity government to demilitarize the buffer zone and defuse tension between the communities.
