The chairman of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, Festus Gontebanye says IGAD has secured air tickets for the Former Detainees to come to Juba.

The Minister of Information, Michael Makuei Lueth, says the detainees failed to come today because the flight tickets were not paid for in time.

The group is expected to take part in the inauguration of the office of JMEC tomorrow.

At a press conference in Juba, Mr. Gontebanye said the former detainees confirmed that they were coming to Juba.

Mr Gontebanye says the leader of the SPLM in Opposition has expressed concern about the security of his advance team to Juba.

He said the inauguration of the JMEC in Juba tomorrow will go on even without the presence of the opposition and the former detainees to avoid further delay in the implementation process.

Mr Gontebanye also strongly reiterated the need for the people and the leaders of South Sudan to reconcile and forgive one another during the peace process.

“Please, you are facing a difficult situation of the losses you have incurred, but the best way to deal with it, is to try, even if you can’t, to forgive,” he added.
