The Acting Mayor of Juba broke silence since the video of ‘slapping’ a female vendor went viral, requesting the City Legislative Council to give him 14 days to compile a report before appearing after the body summoned him.

On Tuesday, September 12, in a 2-minute and 9-second video clip, the acting Mayor, accompanied by armed police and others, stormed vendors along the Seventh-Day roundabout.

The Acting Mayor and his team were seen chasing vendors from the roadsides. He was with two pistols.

Khamis who’s also the Commissioner of Lainya County slapped the woman vendor with his left hand.

The video angered South Sudanese online with some calling it an act of bad and poor leadership.

Lawmakers, civil society activists and women groups have also called for the removal of the acting mayor.

As a result, the Juba City Legislative Council summoned the acting mayor to appear before the house and answer some questions regarding the matter.

The council requested the mayor to appear on Monday next week.

In response, the acting mayor accepted the summon but requested more days to compile a comprehensive report.

In a letter seen extended to Eye Radio newsroom this morning, the acting Mayor requested the City Legislative Council for more days.

“I request the date fixed to be amended and adjourned to give me ample time of fourteen days to compile a comprehensive evidenced-based report on the matter,” said Acting Mayor

The Acting Mayor also requested the Juba City Legislative Council to provide him with questions to allow him to prepare a proper response.
