Humanitarian situation is ‘bad’

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs says the humanitarian situation in the country is bad.

Hussein Maar Nyuot says it requires an immediate intervention from the government and aid agencies to improve the situation, which worsened at the outbreak of conflict in December 2013.

Mr Maar told Eye Radio that the most affected are the people living outside the UN camps across the country.

“People are moving to Ethiopia, moving from village to village, and in eastern Equatoria, there is hunger,” he stressed.

“That is not because of insecurity but because the rain failed last year.”

Maar Nyuot said an assessment report on food security in the country will soon be released to proper planning of the humanitarian activities.
