The government has instructed all members of the Organized Forces and civilians who still illegally possess guns to hand them over to the barracks or to the police stations.
Authorities in the organized forces two weeks ago said that some stringent measures would be taken to ensure that the country was free of guns in illegal hands and that peace and calm returns.
The Deputy Inspector of Police Lt General Andrew Koul Nyon told journalists that whoever resists handing in his gun will be shot.
“We have said that all the guns must be collected, if you refused to hand us that gun, we will take it by force. If you resist we can even shoot you down; we cannot play with you, because you have proved yourself as an enemy. We have told you to hand us the gun in a peaceful way , because we have said that all the guns have to be put in the store ,but if you refuse and resist, the law is there and I am sure no one will refused to hand his gun. If you hide that gun we will still get it”, he said.
Lt General Nyoun added that the government will soon bring in metal detectors to help them hunt for weapons.
Last week an arms and Ammunitions search was launched in Juba to retrieve guns and ammunitions in illegal possessions.
The Police Spokesperson, Colonel James Monday told Eye Radio that thousands of small arms were confiscated during the Joint arms search operation.
