Authorities in Fashoda County in Upper Nile state are urging the national government to speed up the demarcation of borders between counties to avoid conflicts over land.

Commissioner Morris Adieng told Eye Radio that the communal clash, in which an army Major General was killed in neighboring Akoka County, was due to a land dispute between the two counties.

At least nine people were killed in the fighting on Wednesday.

“I urge the national government to handle this in order to a void the attacks to our people in Fashoda County by citizens of Akoka County because of border.” He said.

Authorities in Akoka County have not commented on the matter.

Yesterday, the Minister of Information in Upper Nile State, Peter Hoth, told Eye Radio that the cause of the fighting had not been established.
