A high-level government delegation has travelled to Doha to deliver President Salva Kiir’s message of condolence following the death of Qatar’s former Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The delegation, led by Presidential Adviser on National Security Affairs Tut Gatluak Manime and accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. James Pitia Morgan, departed on Wednesday to present the President’s condolence letter to Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Agok Anyar Madut said the delegation was dispatched on behalf of President Kiir to convey the country’s sympathies to the leadership and people of Qatar.
“Honourable Tut Gatluak Manime… accompanied by Honourable Dr. James Pitia Morgan… left for Doha this morning to deliver a letter of condolences from His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan,” Madut said.
According to the ministry, the message is addressed to Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani following the death of the country’s former ruler, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Madut said President Kiir is also expressing solidarity with the people of Qatar during their time of mourning.
“His Excellency the President conveys the solidarity of the people of South Sudan with their brothers and sisters in the State of Qatar,” he said.
South Sudan and Qatar maintain longstanding diplomatic relations and have cooperated on a range of regional and international issues.
Qatar has supported humanitarian and development initiatives in South Sudan, and bilateral relations have continued to grow since South Sudan gained independence in 2011.
