A mining company has started gold exploration in Eastern Equatoria state.

The New Kush Exploration and Mining Company plans to survey the whole of the Greater Kapoeta region and start the mining process after the minerals are found.

The mining exercise would provide employment opportunities for the people in the area, said Titus Lokwachuma, Kapoeta East County Commissioner.

He told Eye Radio that the company was granted permission by the government to conduct the mine exploration.

“They’ve to explore and then mine after 2 to 3 years. Others would take 2 years or something like that and then there would come a period of production,” he said.

Commissioner Lokwacuma said Kapoeta East County has great potential for mining of other minerals apart from gold.

Studies have uncovered that South Sudan has considerable deposits of various mineral such as; gemstones, petroleum, iron and other metals.
