The Federal Republic of Germany has pledged $1.1 million dollars for the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission in support of the peace agreement.

According to a press statement, the money will help promote the implementation of the peace agreement and the transitional mechanisms at all levels.

It will also ensure the development and implementation of the national peace process, and improve the capacity of JMEC to carry out its tasks.

In addition, the central European nation is also expected to sign today a 5.6 million dollar deal with JMEC.

This amount is meant to support supervision of the ceasefire and security arrangements, as well as strategies to reduce and reform the armed forces in South Sudan.

“Only in cooperation with JMEC and CTSAMM the Government of South Sudan, which is now a united Government, will be able to overcome the difficulties the country is facing now,” said, Johannes Lehne, German Ambassador to South Sudan.

The German Cooperation agency GIZ will implement the German contribution and participate as a financial controller in both projects.
