Gbudwe state members of parliament have been paid their delayed recess allowance, an official has told Eye Radio.

The lawmakers received the money on Thursday, after declaring to go on recess on Wednesday even without the money.

Allowance has been part of a dispute between the state legislature and the executive. Last month, the MPs said they would not go on recess before receiving the money.

“After the clarification on this issue of the recess which was not a condition on the Executive, the recess was declared and after a day, the recess allowance was paid to the members of parliament,” said Hon Robert Tingira, chairperson of information at state Legislative Assembly.

Hon Tingira said the money will enable the MPs to reach out their constituencies and inform them on what the state govern has done and plans to do.

“The allowance is such small money. It is not something big. It was five thousand pound,” he added.

There are 26 parliamentarians in the Gbudwe State Legislative Assembly.
