Foreign ministry to establish new embassies abroad

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it plans to open up more embassies abroad.

It says this will improve the country’s engagement and relations with other countries.

Currently, South Sudan has 25 functioning embassies across the world.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mawen Makol says these are not enough.

“We are still working on the number of embassies that we want to open, not yet confirmed. But, in our stretch here, there are some few embassies that we want add to our embassies,” he said.

Mr. Makol says there are embassies that were established in some countries, but no ambassadors have been appointed to run them.

They include the ones in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He says the embassies are being run by South Sudanese diplomats.
