The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, James Pitia Morgan, and the Canadian Ambassador to South Sudan, Joanne Minns, have discussed bilateral relations following a meeting held in Juba.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, the two officials held talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring areas of mutual interest between South Sudan and Canada.

Minister Morgan reaffirmed the importance of the longstanding diplomatic relations between South Sudan and Canada and reiterated the need for continued cooperation in advancing shared priorities.

The meeting comes as Canada, alongside western allies including the United States and the United Kingdom, continues to call on the government to engage in dialogue to address political and military tensions in parts of the country.

The international community has also called for the release of all political detainees to allow for inclusive participation in the upcoming elections scheduled for December 2026.
