The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony has approved a draft mining regulation developed by a state committee tasked with assessing and regulating artisanal mining activities across the state.

The draft regulation was presented to Governor Adil by the Central Equatoria State Assessment and Regulatory Committee on Mining during a meeting in Juba.

Governor Adil commended the committee for producing what he described as an important document that could help promote economic diversification and improve oversight of the mining sector.

He directed the State Ministry of Trade and Industry to begin the process of operationalizing the regulation as soon as possible.

According to a statement from his office, the draft regulation is expected to provide a legal framework for licensing, inspections, compliance monitoring, environmental protection, and enforcement of mining activities across Central Equatoria State.

Authorities say the move is aimed at strengthening oversight of artisanal mining operations while ensuring that the sector contributes to economic development and environmental sustainability.
