Acting Government Spokesperson David Yau Yau, who also serves as Deputy Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, confirmed the incident to Eye Radio, saying the blaze started at around 1:00 a.m.

Yau Yau said the cause of the fire remains unknown and that government authorities have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The incident took place last night at around 1:00 a.m. Up to now, I have not yet received all the details because it happened while everybody was asleep. We have just begun gathering information to establish the root cause of the fire. By the end of the day, we hope to provide the public with the correct information on what caused it,” Yau Yau told Eye Radio.

The acting government spokesperson said authorities are still assessing the extent of the damage and have not yet determined the losses resulting from the fire.

He added that the government is compiling information and will provide a comprehensive public update once investigations are completed.

An Eye Radio reporter at the scene said the administration block of the National Security Service headquarters was engulfed by the fire.

However, sources within the National Security Service told Eye Radio that the detention facility and the office of the Director General were not affected by the blaze.

No casualties or injuries had been reported by the time of publication.

The Blue House serves as the headquarters of the National Security Service and is among South Sudan’s most heavily guarded government installations. Located in Juba, the facility houses key administrative offices of the country’s intelligence agency and plays a central role in national security operations.

Over the years, the premises have featured prominently in discussions on national security, governance and the detention of suspects.

Authorities have not indicated whether the incident has disrupted the operations of the National Security Service as investigations continue into the cause of the fire.
