Fangak IDPs suffer waterborne diseases

Author : | Published: Tuesday, August 23, 2016

Many people are suffering from waterborne diseases after recent floods that displaced many people in Fangak, the state health officials have said.

Last week, the Red Cross announced that more than 700 households have been evacuated to high lands due to flood in Old Fangak. The displaced people are now staying on higher grounds.

Health minister John Deng says many of these people are suffering from diseases such as Kala-azar, thyroid disorder, cholera, and malaria.

He told Eye Radio that he is not sure about the availability of drugs in the main hospital located in an area under control of the SPLM-IO.

Mr Deng has urged humanitarian agencies to reach out to these displaced people. Waterborne diseases are common in Fangak state due to annual flooding.
