Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have reported that confirmed Ebola cases have risen above 1,000, according to the country’s latest epidemiological update as reported by the Kampala-based Independent.

The DRC health ministry said the country has recorded 1,003 confirmed cases, including 254 deaths, representing a case fatality rate of 25.3 percent.

It added that 365 patients are currently either isolated or hospitalized, while 100 people have recovered from the disease. The ministry also reported that contact tracing across the three affected provinces stands at 58 percent.

Despite the increase in cases, authorities said response measures are ongoing, including strengthened surveillance, expanded community outreach, and improved diagnostic and case management capacity.
