Drought has caused the failure of this year’s maize crop in Upper Nile state the commissioner of Akoka County has told Eye Radio.

Daniel Yor Akech said that the farmers of Akoka are now planning to grow sorghum in the hope of having food to both eat and sell.

In an exclusive interview with Eye Radio Daniel Yor Akech said that the drought has been bad this year.

“There has been no rain actually the rain is not too much so people have not cultivate maize so people are going to cultivate sorghum hope that will be the only thing,” he said.

Mr. Akech said that sorghum will take about five months to grow and replace the failed maize crops.

He also said that because of crop failure, the drought, and waiting for sorghum to grow, there is likely to face hunger problems.
