Death toll from Malakal inter-communal clashes rises to 13 -UNMISS

13 people have so far been confirmed dead in the inter-communal fighting at the UN Protection Civilians Site in Malakal, Upper Nile State.

According to UNMISS, the new death toll was recorded in health facilities at the Protection of Civilians site.

In a statement to Eye Radio newsroom Thursday evening, UNMISS said it was concerned about the eruption of the fighting in the Malakal POC.

The Mission calls on the fighting communities to cease violence and dialogue.

Following the incident, authorities in Upper Nile imposed a three-day dusk-to-Dawn curfew in Malakal town.

He said, a group from one of the communities stabbed to death another to avenge a member who was killed on Wednesday night, resulting in the deadly violence.

Odhok says one community was forced to flee the fighting that escalated into the use of firearms.
