Citizens urged to grow their own food

South Sudan should end economic dependence on neighboring countries, a sociologist at the University of Juba has said.

Theophilius Onyechere says South Sudanese should practice agriculture to avoid importing food from other countries.

He urged the government to sensitize the public on the use of the fertile land in the country.

“A lot of people depend on government, waiting for oil money when we have resources around us, like the land which is very rich in South Sudan,” he said.

“People should not be hungry in South Sudan. People shouldn’t be depending on others as a result of perpetual laziness.”

Mr. Onyechere also said research should be conducted into why individuals depend on others for survival.

He said this could be due to laziness or lack of education.
