There were clashes between cattle keepers and security forces in Rumbek-North County, Lakes, yesterday. However, details are scanty.

The Acting Minister of Information in the State, Dhieu Wol, told Eye Radio that there is no network in the area where the fighting took place, and says it is difficult to get information about the situation on the ground.

“We’ve no details from the area because the area is swampy and there is no network there to enable us access the information,” Mr Wol said.

Mr. Wol says they are still waiting for a radio message for the details.

News agencies reported that 24 people have been killed in the fighting that took place at Aguoch cattle camp.

Lakes State has been experiencing rampant insecurity due to inter-communal fighting, cattle raiding and revenge killings.

Recently members of parliament reported that over 500 people have died from such killings.
