CID questions foreign affairs ministry officials over stolen money

Author : | Published: Monday, August 24, 2015

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says some of its finance officials are being questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department over the theft of some cash from their offices.

Spokesman Mawien Makol says unknown people broke into the ministry on Friday and stole the money.

He told Eye Radio that one of the windows was broken, but he did not specify the amount.

“Some of the finance officers are still being questioned. So we are still waiting for the final result,” Amb Makol.

He said the amount of the stolen money is unknown. This is not the first time money has been stolen from a government institution.

In March 2013, more than 240,000 pounds were stolen from the office of the President.

An investigation headed by the chairman of the anti-corruption commission later said officials within the office may have contributed to the theft.
