The Governor of Jonglei State Denay Jock Chagor has reiterated calls on cattle keepers displaced to the Equatoria region to take their livestock back to the state.

Governor Chagor said the flood that forced them out of their state has now subsided.

Chagor said on Friday that the environment Jonglei is conducive for the cattle keepers to return home and said the return of herders end ethnic conflicts in parts of the Equatoria region.

“For you, the people of Jonglei State, who are herding cattle in Eastern and Central Equatoria, the time has come, the country has called all of us to take our cattle to Jonglei, and the flood that displaced us now has subsided,” he said while speaking on the national television SSBC.

He also promised to ensure security for communities and their properties.

“All the insecurity issues, we will deal with it. So time has come, and let’s go back to Jonglei, let take our cattle back, let this circle of violence around cattle keepers come to an end.”

He made the appeal a week after the Central Equatoria State authorities started the evacuation of cattle herders out of the state.

Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony directed army commanders to facilitate the evacuation of Jonglei cattle herders out of the state.

The authorities say the process is part of the implementation of President Kiir’s order for the evacuation of cattle herders.
