The employees of Central Equatoria State are demanding that the pay rates between the states and the national Government should be the same.

They want the same job to have the same pay whether one works for the state or the national government.

The demand was made during a meeting yesterday between the state Governor Clement Wani Konga and the employees at Nyakuron Cultural Center.

The Chairperson of the state Employees’, Jallah Saeed, said the State employees are suffering because they are being paid less than national employees.

“Let it [salaries] be adjusted to help the employees,” said Mr Saeed.

“If the employees is getting two hundred pounds, will this two hundred [pounds] really help the employees, will he feed the children, will that two hundred feed the house?”

A number of employees also spoke to Eye Radio saying that they find it hard to meet their living demands because of their little pay.

“The least a person gets is two hundred. Maybe he or she stays in Gudele. Commuting to work from the first day until the end of the month, the money is not even enough for transport,” said an employee who sought anonymity.

“Your Excellency what is painful is, the nurse who is working under state is the same qualification with the Nurse working under the national government. Why is the difference in pay so big like that?” said another employee.

Governor Kong’a urged the State employees to bear with government.

“We have to bear with it up until revenue collection is returned to the state.”

Governor Konga promised the state employees to continue to have such meetings every two months in order to address their concerns.
