The Central Equatoria State parliament has tabled a motion on banning public display of posters advertising the work of traditional doctors across Juba town.

State parliamentarians want the ban to also be extended to other counties of the state.

They say the move aims at preventing the spread of witch craft within the community.

One MP, Hon Joyce Kiden Eluzai says displaying of these posters everywhere in the town shows negative ways of getting jobs, favors, promotions and riches.

For his part, Naphtali Hassen Gale, Speaker of Central Equatoria state parliament, says they’re very ‘disturbing’.

“It is very disturbing because the number of these people has become so huge and indeed is affecting the community very very seriously and negatively,” he said.

Mary Apai Ayiga, state Minister of Gender and Social Development, says her ministry does not give license to traditional doctors.

“I want to bring the attention to this house that the state is not giving any license to any witch-doctor to operate in the state,” she said.

“Our country is still a new country and, immediately we started with this rubbish when will we develop.”

The motion has been referred to the committee of Information and Culture and Committee of Human Rights for scrutiny.
