Nearly five thousand eight-grade candidates are sitting their final examinations in Central Equatoria, including children who have sought refuge in UN compounds.

Two exam centers have been set up in the UN compounds in Jebel and Tongpiny where more than 200 pupils will take their exams.

The state Minister of Education, Hastin Yokwe, said one center has been opened in Juba Girls for pupils displaced by violence in Mongala.

“In Juba city, we have about twenty centers, four in Terekeka plus three extra centers and two for internally displaced people,” explained Mr Yokwe.

“In Juba, we have pupils sitting in the UN compounds in Juba Nabari and in Jebel. We have pupils who came from Mongala and Lirya; they will be sitting in Juba Girls’.”

Mr. Yokwe also said that the directory of education in Mongala reported losing track of four candidates who might not be able to sit their exams.

He said there are about twenty six centers where pupils are taking their Primary Leaving Examination Certificate.
