Central Bank urged to give dollars to importers

The National Chamber of Commerce is urging the Central Bank to give dollars to traders for importing fuel.

There have been shortages of fuel and rise in food prices due to lack of dollars in the markets, according to businesspeople.

This, they say, will soon impact on imports, particularly fuel.

“We are appealing to the Central Bank and the concerned authorities to facilitate this issue of the dollars and the Bank should make it easier to rescue the situation,” William Akwach, Secretary for Financial and Administration at the chamber, told Eye Radio’s Dawn Show.

The rate of dollars is said to have risen in the past few days due to high cost of commodities in the market.
