Maridi prays for fire incident victims
Prayers for victims of Maridi fire incident were held yesterday in Yambio.
Last week, a truck carrying fuel caught fire, killing more than 180 people. On Tuesday, state authorities said the death toll has reached 204.
The Bishop of the Diocese Tombura –Yambio, Bishop Edward Hiiboro, says the prayers were held to give courage to the families of the victims.
“it was meant to give courage to the families of those who lost their loved ones in that incident and to unite people also all over the country because such incidents can happen anywhere, not only in Maridi,” he told Eye Radio.
Authorities in Western Equatoria have called for humanitarian assistance to those injured in the Maridi fire incident.
Some of the victims are receiving treatments at the Maridi Teaching Hospital, others, at the Juba Teaching Hospital.
