Soldiers killed in grenade explosion in Yambio

Two SPLA soldiers were killed and five others wounded after an RPG exploded in Yambio on Tuesday night.

Sapana Abui, Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, says the grenade was accidentally detonated by one of the soldiers on a night patrol.

“One of them who was holding the RBG; as he was disembarking from the truck, he accidentally hit the bottom of the RBG on the truck,” Mr Abui described the incident to Eye Radio.

“So, it ignites the shell and exploded among them.”

He said two of the men died on the spot and the rest were taken to the state’s main hospital for treatment.

The deputy governor added that the bodies of the soldiers were buried this morning in the army garrison in Yambio.
