Juba: Soldier wounded in Tuesday night shootout

A soldier was wounded in a shootout in Jebel suburb of Juba on Tuesday night, SPLA Spokesperson Colonel Phillip Aguer has said.

He says the man has been taken to the hospital for treatment. He says the incident happened after a misunderstanding among a group of soldiers.

Colonel Aguer says the shooting is under investigation.

“Three soldiers disagreed among themselves and one of them started shooting,” Col Aguer explained.

“The other two ran away, and then the rest of the soldiers started firing shots at the same direction.

The wounded soldier is a member of the Tiger Battalion.

“If his condition improves, he will be the one to tell exactly what was happening, who shot him and why.”

The incident caused panic among the area residents last light. Colonel Aguer says the situation was put under control.
