A chat with a scholar on IGAD proposal
Recently, IGAD declared a power sharing deal between the government and the SPLM in Opposition.
The draft agreement gives the SPLM-IO 33% power-sharing ratio at the national level and 53% in the three states of Unity, Upper Nile and Jonglei within the oil-rich greater Upper Nile region.
Dr. Bennett Khamis Kenyi is a lecturer at the Center for Peace and Development Studies at the University of Juba. He says the proposals do not give priority for peace, because he says they focus on power sharing rather than peace.
Dr Kenyi doubts that IGAD will bring lasting peace to South Sudan during the next round of South Sudan Peace talks, unless a reform is done in IGAD mediation team.
He speaks with Nichola Mandil.
