The President of South Sudan Boxing Federation is appealing for over 80,000 US dollars to allow the country take part in the upcoming 2023 African Games in Ghana.

Tereza Athian Abdelbagi said the Federation has already registered to take part in the tournament due in August.

“Now we have a championship that is coming in August, and I look forward that our females will participate in that game in Ghana,” she told Eye Radio during the launch of the Women Boxing Facility in Juba on Tuesday.

She said the national female boxing governing body has not yet secured the money to get tickets for 18.

“I have about 18 players who are going, both females and males, and we don’t have tickets yet,

“When you have tickets, you have to have accommodation, and a doctor, and these people [players] have families, so this is one of the challenges.”

The money is also to cater for their accommodation and incentives for the team doctor.

“So, I appeal to my nation and to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to look into this. The money is approximately 80 something thousand US dollars,”  she said.

The Federation was established in 2012, a year after the South Sudan independence.
