The Association for Media Development in South Sudan, AMDISS, has urged the authorities to reopen Eye Radio.

On Friday, the 11th of November 2016, officials from the National Security Service came to Eye Radio and ordered the radio to be shut down.

No reason was given, according to the management of the radio.

“The act of closing media houses by the national security is unacceptable and a violation of the media laws and a denial of the constitutional rights of freedom of expression and of the press,” AMDISS Chairman Alfred Taban said in a statement

“AMDISS strongly condemns the closure and calls on the security to re-open the radio immediately and unconditionally and use dialogue to amicably resolve any issue that might have led to the shutdown of the radio.”

There has been no comment from government officials.
