The Permanent Representative of South Sudan to the African Union, and IGAD says he has not received any information about the planned IGAD summit on the country.

Ambassador Jimmy Pitia Morgan was responding to the statement by Kenyan President William Ruto, that the regional bloc will hold a special summit on South Sudan to assess the status of peace implementation in the country.

“So far we have not received any official notification from the IGAD Secretariat,”  Morgan told Eye Radio on Friday.

President Ruto said on Monday that he has spoken with the President of Sudan, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, who is also the Chairperson of the IGAD Assembly of Heads of State and Government.

According to Ruto, the meeting on South Sudan will take place before the end of this month.

But Ambassador Morgan said he has no notification from the regional body regarding their next meeting.

The diplomat, who triples as the country’s delegate to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa said the Chair of IGAD has not yet notified the secretariat in Djibouti.

“Sudan, which is the chair of IGAD has the responsibility to notify the Secretariat, the Secretariat to notify us but not the other way around.”
